OFFICIAL OPENING.
J ANNUAL BALT MT. EDEN TENNIS CLUB. The Mount Eden Tennis Club opened it* IU3S-39' eeaeon on Saturday in iine weather. There was an excellent attendance of members and their friends. The patron, MY. A. C. Johns, addressed the large gathering and congratulated them on their progressive club and appointments. Mr. Sneddon, chairman of the Mount Eden parks committee, also spoke wiehing the members a successful season. Dr. T. H. Pettit was also present. Mr. A. C. Johns tihen called on Mrs. Rowe to serve the first ball over the net, which she did amidst applause. A very enjoyable and successful Yankee tournament wae then conducted, after which eete were made up for the remainder of the afternoon by a very energetic committee. The ladies' committee served afternoon tea in the up-to-date clubhouse, which was gaily decorated with streamers and flags. The Mount Eden tea kiosk wae the scene of a bright, and happy throng of dancere who attended the annual opening ball of the club on Saturday /evening. Among those present were: Mesdames L. F. Rowe, C. D. Bowler, R. Dixon, J. Geddes, H. N. Potter, C. Douglas, Misses A. Rose, J. Rose, M. Hull. J. Oliver, N. Oliver, A. Hedgeman, A. Burns, B. Burns, C. Scott, B. Scott, B. Message, E. Ryan, A. Gibeon, J. Sinclair, P. Duncan," B. Roberts, B. Bayliss, M. Birch, L. Lawson, M. Martin, R. Gallagher, I. Halliwell.
