BUTTERFAT PRICES.
CONCERN IN TARANAKI

NLW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A statement that city consumers were buying butter at a price that would eeriSJ,V Crea f, e \'l e - «P«*«» deficit of ±900,000 in the Dairy Account was made '«»*''* a x,,,th Turannki dairy official. He said that the dairy companies eelling locally would receive .79d lore per lb than those exporting. It i« stated that there will be no increase in retail butter prices, although the guaranteed price lias been increased by .04d |K>r lb. I'lie differentials last year kept the returns from retail sales down to almost export prices, but it i« stated now that there will be no differentials this year, but there will be "equalisation" later.
Dairy officials B aid afeo that the only place equalisation could come from is the Dairy Account, and. therefore, the returns from butter exports would suffer in order that the public could have butter at the same price as last year.
