THE TWO PARTIES.
FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE
"There are fundamental differences fcrtween the two contending parties," •nvs the Xational party manifesto. "On tlie one hand, the Labour party is out to break down and destroy the existing economic order, and substitute in its plaro a system based on the philosophy of unadulterated, revolutionary Socialism, with State ownership of property and of industry and trade, and direction of its operations by the workers them•elves. They seek to destroy private investment in industry by taxing it out of existence nnd removing all incentive to invest money in industry.
"On the other hand, the National party believes in the present syetem of private enterprise- and seeks to develop it in nfcordanee with the philosophy of personal frpedinn, initiative, thrift and private ownership of all property, with the right of investment* to earn a renxonable return commensurate with the nature of the investment and the risk involved.
''Tim National party regards the Gnvi<riniinnt n« the authority to see that retinntiHMi> conditions nre observed in the ci iidiii-t of trade nnd industry, and tlmt iihuses, inimical to the public interest, nre nr ,i permitted.
"Wh.rcvrr possible, the Government eliould cooperate with private enterprise, with a view to providing an even letter hit vice to the people.
"The real issues are private ownership or State ownership, individual freedom or State dictation."
