(Spfeclal—By Air Mall.)
YELLOWKNIFE, August 27
A "Rose Marie" of the frozen Northland has "got her man" in one of the moat pictuaesque romances of this mining camp, which is now bustling with activity as the result of the recent goTdstrike in the neighbourhood.
Vicki Lepine, the girl, was married when only 14, but the marriage waa annulled. At 25, she followed the goldruahe* in the north, and opened laundries and beauty parlours at various settlements.
Last year, almost pennile«B, she arrived at Yellowknife. A little later, with £300 in the bank, she owned a house, furniture and laundry machinery.
It so happened that, last Christmas, Vicki rushed out of doors to intervene in a (lo«r fight.
Prompted l>y the same idea, a searlet -poated "Mountie." Constable R. E. MrKale, also ran to the scene, and helped to separate the snarling "huskies." After their first meeting Vicki and the "Mountie" fell in love.
Unable to obtain permission to marry, McKale had to leave the force. The couple married, hoarded an aeroplane and spent their honeymoon prospecting the new goldflelds. To-day Vicki has not only got her Mountie, she is also Mayoress of Yellowknife.
