GYLVIA SIDNEY is reported to be planning to make a film in New York for an independent company, in spite of her contract with Walter Wanger.

TXTALT DISNEY is being compelled to expand his studio space. He is planning a new million-dollar plant. Disney began in 1923, with his brother, in a disused garage.

"TjAVID SELZXICK is putting aside all other plans to rush "Titanic" into production. The famous shipwreck will be his next epic, postponing "Gone With the Wind" still further.

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ TUDY GARLAND has been seriously injured in a car smash. She was on her way back from the studio and was taken to hospital, reported to be suffering from three broken ribs, a lung puncture and a sprained back. She was working in "Love Finds Andy Hardy."

t LOYD NOLAN" has been chosen to star in "Persons in Hiding." This in taken from a book by J. Edgar Hoover, head of America's G-men, and deals with his own adventures. Hoover until now refused permission for his own activities to be filmed.

rpHREE of six productions announced bv Korda are Eastern adventure stories, starring Sabu. They are "Calcutta." "The Thief of Bagdad," and "Jungle Book." The latter will entail •'months of preparation." because, "as in the book, the animals will talk." These open-space imperial epics are a curious development of Korda's enterprise. quite fortuitously inspired by the voting Inii.an, Sabu.

BARI, instead of OH a ire Trevor, will be teamed with June Lang in the "Big-Town Girls" series.

JACK BUGHANAN is reported to have made Annabella an offer to appear in the English film, "Richard of Bordeaux," with John Gielgud. ♦ * ♦ ♦

Q.ERMAINE Aussey, Frendh actress formerly under contract to 20th Century-Fox, then tested by Goldwyn, is believed to have signed a contract with Warners.

JJAY MILLAND says learning lines is a cinch compared to learning to snore without laughing. He has to go through a two-minute snoring routine with Andy Devine for his role in "Men With Wings," air epic produced by Paramount, and if he's fortunate enough to get through his own snores without laughing, he invariably chuckles when Andy starts.

pRODUCER-Director Frank Lloyd will film for three successive nights medieval battle scenes 011 the lot with approximately 900 "bit" players and "extras" participating. The warfare is the highlight of "If I were King," starring Ronald Colman as Francois Villon with Frances Dee, Basil Rathbone and others in this recreation of the Burgundians' siege of Paris in the 15th century. Major •etting of th» battle sequence is a reproduction of the West (iate of Paris. The value of the medieval costumes, armour, weapons and other trappings in the battle scenes is placed at 100.000 dollars. A special "prop" room has been erected alongside the set 1 for storage of equipment.

Life of Jesee James" Is down for August production, with Tyrone Power as the American bandit. Director Henry King has been visiting James' old home for material. If possible, Henry Fonda will be borrowed to play Power's brother. + + + + QHARLES BOYER has been awarded the 1938 diploma for distinguished acting by the American Institute of Cinematography of the University of Southern California. Last year Luise Rainer won it. Boyer'e award is. ba«e<l on his work in "Marie Walewska," "Mayerling" and "Tovarioh."
