j QUESTION OP POWERS. Whether it was competent for & disputee committee appointed under an award to adjudicate on matters affecting rates of pay was the question before Mr. J. A. Gilmour, S.M., in the Industrial Court to-day. The magistrate, referring to section 12 of the Industrial and Conciliation Amendment Act 1932 'ruled that such a committee was not I competent. ! The application aro<e out of disputed ■ provisions of the Northern Di-trict Certificated Engine-driver- , award. Mr. \V. E. Anderson appeared for the oora!pany concerned, the Auckland Meat Company, and Mr. J. Clark for the J union. "I think your only remedy ie to talc* I action for a breach of an award/* tfc^ 1 magistrate advised Mr. Clark.
