NEARLY HALF-MILLION SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES. ITEMS OF EXPENDITURE. (By Telegraph. —Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Supplementary Estimates, introduced into the House of Representatives yesterday by Governor-General's message represent an expenditure of £401,030, of which the Consolidated Fund will provide £213,324 aud the Public Works Fund £100,000. The remainder will be found from various accounts. To carry out a new system of dog registration which involves payment for a drug to prevent hydatids, £0000 is voted, of which £0000 is expected to be recovered from dog owners. An additional vote of £-100 for preliminary expenses of the national health and superannuation scheme is for the cost of the Parliamentary- Committee "e investigation. (.Irrtiitnj to settlers on account of losses sustained through floods in Esk Valley, near Napier, total £2000.

The Naval Service votes include £20.000. in addition to £8700 on the main Estimates, for the purchase of land at the naval base. Pevonport. in order to extend the naval barracks and erect an instructional establishment. The explanation of a £200 vote for expenses of the Advisory Committee on onion marketing shows that the purchase and sale of onion« is expected to result in a credit of £500. Scier ; and Industry. Scientific and Industrial Research votes include a £100 contribution toward,* the cost of an officer visiting Australia to investigate the linen flax industry; £1300 to Lincoln College for subterranean clover investigations; and a further £000 to the original vote of £2200. for expenses of conducting an investigation into facial eczema in stock.

Additional votes of £9049 for the Transport Department are required mainly on account of the expenses of 10 additional traffic inspectors for control of traffic in boroughs and town districts, for which payment is received. A further £20.000 is req"ired by the Henlth Dep..rt;jienl as additional subsidies to liospita , board*.
