CRICKET IN NORTH.
WHANGAREI ASSOCIATION. MR. GEO. GRANT LIFE MEMBER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Twenty delegates attended the annual meeting of the Whangarei Cricket Association held on Wednesday night. The report showed that W T hangarei had withstood four challenges for the Dargaville Shield. The cost of representative matches, together with other items of nonrecurring expenditure, resulted in the debit balance being increased from £32 to £64. Officers elected:—Patron. Mr. A. J. Murdoch; president, Mr. H. E. G. Hedditch: vice-presidents, Messrs. H. E. Hewlett, D. Stokes, Dr. S. H. Ward, G. W. Bennett. W. G. Whitmore; secretary, Mr. L. G. Miller; treasurer, Mr. F. T. Williams: judicial committee, Messrs. Miller and Hedditch; delegates to North Auckland Cricket Association, Messrs. A. A. Angelo and L. G. Miller; ground superintendent. Mr. J. A. Green; auditor, Mr. A. R. Menzies; selector, Mr. C. L. Nisbet. The appointment of senior B and junior selectors was left to the management committee. Nominations will close on October 3 and thp first management committee will be held on October 4 when the opening date will be fixed. Mr. G. Grant, who retired from the position of treasurer, was last night elected the fourth life member of the Whangarei Cricket Association. Several speakers referred to the outstanding services given by Mr. Grant to cricket and sports generally.
