BOXING.

CALTAUX SEEKS REVENGE.

The Auckland Boxing Association have chosen a bout of wide popular appeal in the Caltaux v. Downs contest for next Monday night. Always a firm favourite with the crowd, Caltaux has demonstrated over the past few'months that his outstanding success a* an amateur entirely justified his decision to enter professional ranks. As a professional he has met and conquered some of the most highlyrated welter-weights in the Dominion, and his record of seven wins and three losses is a very creditable one »n view of the difficult . opposition that he has met. -

Downs-met Caltaux at Invercargill last month, and although he secured the decision on points the verdict met with a very hostile reception, the majority of the large attendance considering that Caltaux had a clear lead on points. Downs has the reputation of being a hard, twohanded fighter (with/a useful right), and there is no doubt that Caltaux has a keen struggle ahead of him on Monday next. This will be tie Aucklander's first ring appearance since his'southern tour. A varied amateur programme has been selected to fill tbe initial half of the programme, which comprises:— -Welter-weight.—T. Collins (Achilles) v. W. Little. s; Feather-weight.—N. C. Greentree (Achilles) v. E. Underwood. Bantam-weight.—S. Stock v. O. Jackson. Light-weight.—B. McKay v. L. Donaldson. Emergency. Welter-weight.—R. Grimmer V. J. McLeid.
