SOCCER CHALLENGE.
OTAGO HEAVILY BOOKED.
MAY NOT BE THIS SEASON.
That there was little chance of Otago accepting Auckland's challenge this season for the English Trophy was reported at last night's meeting o.f the control board of the Auckland Football Association by the chairman, Mr. L. Munro. 4- letter received from the Xew Zealand Council stated that the challenge had been forwarded on to Otago, the new holders, with the request that a suitable date be suggested. Sir. Munro said that while on a recent visit to Wellington he had made inquiries regarding the challenge and, as it appeared that Otago had a heavy local programme to complete, there was little prospect of the challenge being accepted this season.
It was decided to play the champion of champions game on October I, and to allocate the proceeds towards the insurance fund. It was agreed to ask clubs to give assistance toward making the fixture a success financially, in view of the large number of players who have suffered serious injury. City Council Grounds Closing. The grounds committee reported that, owing to the closing of most of the City Council grounds, it would be necessary for decisions to be reached in all knockout games set down for next Saturday. It was pointed out that in Some of the grades several games had yet to be played. It was agreed that extra time, ten minutes each way If necessary, should be played in all grades under third intermediate. It was decided that the higher grades should play 15 minutes each way.
The fixtures committee reported that, owing to the shortage of grounds, it had made appointments for several games to commence at times other than those usually set down. This action was confirmed by the board. The position of the third senior division was discussed and, owing to the shortage of grounds, it was agreed not to proceed with the miniature round. It was resolved to present the medals won by the Navy side, which defeated Auckland in the Drumtnond Cup competition; at Blandford Park next Saturday. Congratulate North Shore. A letter of thanks was received from the Xew Zealand Rugby Union relative to the congratulations forwarded by the board on the success of the Xew Zealand side in Australia.
It was agreed to forward a letter of congratulation to the Xorth Shore Club on its success in the first division championship.
It was decided to send a third grade open representative team to Rotorua on October 1.
It was reported that great interest is lvfing shown in the old boys' game to be played on September 24. Mr. L. C. H. Dawson, ex-international referee, was appointed to control the game, with Mr. F. C. Jacobs and L. J. Checks as linesmen.
Final arrangements were made for the semi-final of the Horhe Cup between Leander and Achilles on Saturday next.
