WATER ON FARMS.
INSPECTION OF PUMPS.
HAURAKI PLAINS OPERATIONS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES, this day.
The value of centrificial pumps in dealing with water on the farms on Hauraki Plains was clearly demonstrated yesterday when members of th.e Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board inspected the two recently installed pumps in operation on the island block a few miles above Ngatea. The first pump inspected is capable of lifting 6,000,000 gallons of water in 24 hours, and the other situated a mile away, is capable of dealing with 3,000,000 gallons. Both pumps are working satisfactorily. The settlers of the Pipiroa district recently asked the board to install a pump in their district and have already subscribed £276 towards the cost. The board at tis meeting later discussed several makes of pumps and decided to get full details of cost and installation, and place them before the settlers. With reference to the amalgamation of local bodies it was pointed out by the chairman, Mr. C. W. Parfitt, that the board recently passed a resolution not in favour of amalgamation.
After a discussion it was decided to co-operate with adjoining drainage boards and the matter was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. The board -is still awaiting advice as to the amount of Government assistance for recent tidal flooding before striking its rates tor the coming year.
