EMPIRE MAILS.
USE OF CARGO BOATS.
TASMAN LINK DELAYS,
Carrying the first consignment of Empire air mail to leave Sydney since the departure of the Aorangi last Thursday, the Union Company's cargo vessel Waiotapu left for New Plymouth yesterday, according to a Press Association message from Sydney. The Maunganui brought no Empire mail when she arrived at Wellington from Sydney yesterday, and the last shipment delivered was dispatched from London on August 21. It appears certain, therefore, that the Waiotapu has on board several English dispatches. If she makes an average trip to New Plymouth, her mail will probably not be delivered here until early next week. A further shipment is expected in Auckland on Tuesday by the Wanganella. Another example of the continued use of cargo vessels for maintaining the Tasman link in this important air mail connection was the departure early this morning of the Mamari for Sydney with a mail consignment. This is expected to get to England on September 24.
