GERMANY CONDEMNED

United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, September 5. Opening the Trade Union Congress at Blackpool, Mr. H. Elvin, in his presidential address, declared: "The three great issues, democracy or Fascism, peace or Avar, Socialism or Capitalism, are all linked. If the Powers, including Britain, had not I betrayed their trust when Germany I marched into the Rhineland the world [would have been saved for democracy." He denounced the Japanese aggression, the air massacres in China and condemned the rape of Austria. "Is Czechoslovakia to be next?" he asked. "If not, why have not Britain, trance and Russia plainly told Germany she must keep off the grass? ' ," Tms brave democracy must not be thrown to the wolves. No pressure must be brought on the Czechs to succumb to Germany's ruthlessness. This may be Europe's last chance to prevent another world war. "Germany, owing to the outrageous expulsion of Jews ought to be outlawed until she realises that barbarism does not pay. Before Germany presses her claims on behalf of minorities elsewhere, she should put her own house in order," he stated.
WORLD SITUATION.
British Trade Union Congress Discussion. LABOUR PARTY'S POLICY. British Official Wireless. (Received 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September 5. The Trade Union Congress at Blackpool has accepted the recommendation of its standing orders committee to hold a private discussion on Thursday on the international situation. On Wednesday a joint meeting of the General Council of the national executive committee of the Labour party and the executive of the Parliamentary Labour party is expected to frame a declaration that will be an inter-statement of the Labour party's policy. In his presidential address Mr. H. H. Elvin commented on aspects of the European situation, recalling the position in 1914, and declared that all those who had lived through the last war should have learued the illusory nature of armed peace.
