TRAMWAY SIDING.

ONE TREE HILL PROTEST. GREEN LANE ROAD PROPOSAL. That it was incorrect for the. deputychairman of the Auckland Transport Board, the Hon. F. E. Lark, M.L.C., td «ay that no objection had been received by the board against the proposal to . construct a tramway siding in Green Lane was tfte statement made by the clerk of the One Tree Hill Borough Council, Mr. A. Leeee, to-day,, in reply to remarks passed on the question at yesterday's meeting of the Transport Board. I "The council forwarded an objection on July 21 and received an acknowledgment from the engineer-manager to the board, Mr. A. E. Ford, on July 25," he •aid. Mr. Leeee added that the council had received objections from all those concerned, with the exception of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and ita tenants and the Auckland Trotting Club. In reply to the objection lodged by the council, the manager said that in view of the strong representations received by the board in favour of the proposal and the fact that arrangements had already been completed regarding the employment of subsidised labour, he had been instructed to proceed with the work. A petition from at least 5 per cent of the ratepayers of the district was necessary for the support of such an objection, said Mr. Leese, but they had been advised that the- district referred to was the Transport Board's area, and it was obviously impossible for his council to obtain such a petition. The council had then advised the Minister of Public Wbrke, the Hon. R. Semple, of the position, and a reply had just been received from the engineer-in-chief and under-secretary of the Department, Mr. J. Wood, that the Minister had given instructions that an inquiry was to be made into the position. i
