FALSE START.
SENSATIONAL BUNCUJS.
BARRIER TAMPERED WITH.
SYDNEY. September 4.
I The Sunday newspapers, featuring the mix-up at the barrier in the Canterbury Guineas yesterday, described it ae a sensational bungle due to somebody tampering with the tapes. It is reported that boys who climbed the fence tied the starting lever to a nut, rendering it impossible for the tapee to lift. When the starter called go three horees caught the tape* and Rathlin's rider F. Lewie was pulled off. E. Bartle, rider of the winner Respirator, received facial injuries. Pandava, riddeu by. M. McCarten, dashed under the tapes and went a mile before hie rider, hearing the shouts of the crowd, realised that there wae a fake start. The riderlees Rathlin galloped behind the field and finally pulled up to begin eating grass on the track. McCarten declared that Pandava wae certainly not improved by the false start and the useless gallop.
