Primary schools in Auckland reopenec to-day for the third and most important term of the year. Numerous intermediate and high schools also resumed, but a number of the secondary schools will not reopen until next week.

coupled with the- beneficial effects of a fortnight's holiday, had brought about a general recovery from measlee and other ille which were exceptionally prevalent when the schools closed.
Mr. D. W. Dunlop, secretary of the Auckland Education Board, said thie morning that there wae more sickness during last term than at any time for many years, and the attendance* at all schools had been greatly reduced in consequence. Teaching staffs also had been depleted through health causes.
"We are using a large number of relieving teachers, chiefly married women, who have been called back to fill many gaps," added Mr. Dunlop, "and at the present time have about 150 in the Auckland Province who are temporarily employed in this way."
