CARDINAL'S DEATH.
NOTEWORTHY LITE ENDS.
(Received 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 4. The death has occurred of Cardinal Patrick Joseph Haves, in his 71st year. Cardinal Hayes -was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1892. He was appointed chancellor of New York in 1903. Four years later he became domestic prelate to the Pope. In 1914 he was consecrated auxiliary bishop of New York, and in 1917 was made Catholic chaplain bishop for the United States Army and Navy. Fifteen months afterwards he was appointed archbishop of I New York and in 1024 he was created cardinal.
