President Farewelled
Tmkmpmnm Pnys Tribute. MOST enjoyable social and dance wae held in the Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Takapuna, the occasion being- a farewell to the president of the Takmpuna and District Returned ' Soldiers" Club, Mr. S. E. James, who has been transferred to the Wairarapa district In asking Mr. James to accept a gold wristlet watch, suitably inscribed, the past president of the club, Mr. J. S. Wilcox, referred to the valuable assistance which had been rendered to the club by Mr. James, and expressed the regret of members at his departure. The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. Guiniven, on behalf of the citizens, expressed regret that Mr. James was leaving the district and wished him every success in his new district. Mr. James suitably replied and thanked those present for their beautiful present and their good wishes. During the evening items were contributed as follows:—Song, Mrs. Young; conjuring, Mr. Rimnier; song, Mr. Kessell, jun.; sailor's hornpipe, Misses Bayliss; song, Mr. Kessell, sen. Excellent dance music was supplied by Mrs. Bayliss, extras being played by Mrs. F. Bridges. The duties of M.C. . were capably carried out by Mr. R. Canton.

Presentation mt Deoonport. the last general meeting of the
Devonport Returned Soldiers' Club ilr. W. J. Perkins, the president, referred to the presentation to the club, by an anonymous donor, of a very fine honours board and the gift was received with acclamation by the large attendance. The board is inscribed with the names of presidents, secretaries and treasurers since the club's inception in 1927. It is interesting to note that in all that time there have been only three presidents, two secretaries and two treasurers.
