After Versailles
"COREIGN AFFAIRS. 19191 37," is correctly described by its publishers, the Cambridge University Press, as "a clear outline of national and international events in the world outside the British Empire since the Treaty of Versailles." The author, Mr. E. L. Hasluck, remarks in his preface that the period with which the book is concerned "contains more material for study and comment than is to be found in whole centuries of earlier history"—hence, in • general survey only the most outstanding developments can find a place. Within these the author has done a. useful work. The book ia arranged on the simple plan of geographical units 1 and the space allotted to different states has been measured "according to the different degrees" of contact with tie British Empire." There is an introductory chapter summarising the Versailles Settlement, and in a final chapter the author reviews the history, achievements and fortunes of the League of Nations. As a guide for readers desiring fuller acquaintance with foreign affairs the author has compiled a list of some 70..b00k5, all published in the 'thirties.
