HAND BEAUTY.
NEW VOGUES.
EXPERT FROM ABROAD. If you are interested in fashions, dress, make-up or any other thing that applies to feminine beauty you would be interested to meet Miss Gladys Byrne, who I arrived in Auckland by the Monterey yesterday. Miss Byrne has some new ideas on women's beauty. "If only people would think „of their hands," sue said when questioned about the latest vogue in fashion and beauty abroad. "You often see an almost beautiful woman make an unconscious ugly movement with her hand."
On the subject of hand bcuutv Miss Bryne described the latest methods being used in London. Paris and New York. "Women nowadays are paying as much attention to hand care as they are to their make-up and dress," she affirmed. Their work with Lands docs not consist of grooming and manicuring only. Mannequins abroad now arc being taught hand exercises to encourage graceful movements, for beauty experts consider this as important as anything else in personal make up. They are paying a great deal of attention too, to hand creams, mnd have formulated creams for every kind of hand, for the too thin, the too dry and the too fat. It is an interesting study for so much can be done in the way of improving general beauty through care." In speaking of the. use of coloured nail polishes Miss Byrne stressed the obvious benefit of high-lighting a dress through nail colour. "To-day coloured nail polish is even more popular than previously," she said, "and with the introduction of technicolour into motion pictures American specialists are realising the great importance of perfectly shaded nails." Miss Byrne mentioned some of the new exciting colours that are fast becoming the rage. "Hacienda is very popular at the moment," she said, "while swamp fire and fiesta (a smoky combine of purple and tan) are also used a great deal." America's latest hand vogue, as described by Miss Byrne was the use of 5 white .petal nail polish. Against suntanned hands this dead white colour made an effective and striking contrast. "Quite recently," continued Miss Byrne, "nail colour has TJeen permitted in the Court. The Queen herself uses a shade of bisque while the Duchess of Kent is very fond of clover colours."
