NEW ATTRACTION.

OLD ENGLISH COTTAGE.

SUGGESTION" TO BOARD.

<By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. -An Old English cottage, with thatched roof, set in a traditional English garden, will be a new attraction at the Botanic Gardens, if a suggestion made to the Christchurch Domains Board is curried out. In making the suggestion, those responsible emphasised to the board the fact thatj although Christ - church was rich in architecture of the finest, English type as far as public buildings were concerned, it lacked an example of that rural architecture which is the charm of the English countryside. The proposal is that a cottage of. a type familiar to those who know rural England should be built, and that the English atmosphere should be carried °ut also in the garden surrounding it, which should be rich in hollyhocks, phlox, mignonette, primroses, and other familiar flowers of England. The cottage, it is suggested, should be more than a feature of the gardens alone. It could serve as a meeting place for old pioneers, and relics of early Canterbury, now stored in a room in the ' ity Council offices, where few people ever see them, should be placed on exhibition in part of the cottage, whiclr could be open to the public at certain hours. Timber . from John Robert Godley's old house in Lyttelton could be incorporated in the cottage, either in its construction or for making furniture, ind it is believed that certain old Christchurch families might be prepared to present certain old articles of furniture or interesting reliea to add to tne display. The proposal has been put before the chairman of the Domains Board, hut naa not yet. come before "the board as a whole. The pilgrims* Association hM aUo been approached with the request that it should give its assistance towards jiuttiug the proposal into effect.
