BANDIT MURDER.

DAYLIGHT HOLD-UP. Melbourne Man Shot Dead After Car Pursuit. THIEVES' HAUL OF £130. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Bandits yesterday afternoon held up a motor ear in Collingwood, shot dead Mr. Frederick William Sherry, aged 47, in an attempt to steal the payroll for the employees of the Sherry Shoe Company, of Clifton Hill. They escaped in another car. Mr. Henry Thomas, who was driving Mr. Sherry's car, went to the latter's assistance but was knocked down. He escaped from the bandits with £.jSO in his pockets. The thieves obtained about £130 which was in the payroll bag. Mr. Sherry had stuffed notes into the pocket of Thomas during the chase. The police say that Mr. Sherry and his brother had a similar experience last March when returning from the bank. They were pursued at high speed for a mile and a half with a payroll of £680, finally escaping. The police think the bandits waited outside the bank where Mr. Sherry was drawing the money for the employees and followed his car.

Two shots were fired at Mr. Sherry's car. He stopped the car, alighted and tried to escape, but fell in a gutter, upon which a young masked man leapt from the pursuing car and fired two shots point-blank into Mr. Sherrv's bodv.
