99 WICKETS.
WARD ALSO IN FORM. ENGLISH XI. ANNIHILATED. AUSTRALIA VICTORIOUS .IN TWO DAYS. (Received 10 a.m.) LOXDOX, September 1. The cosmopolitan English eleven selected to meet the Australians at Blackpool failed to survive the second day, the Commonwealth side winning by the substantial margin of 10 wickets. Twenty-one wickets had fallen for 339 runs on Wednesday. England was dismissed for 132 (Ward six for 44, O'Reilly four for 30) and Australia for 174 (Amur Singh six for 84), and the home team lost Edrich's wicket for a total of 33 in tlie second innings. Rain delayed the start to-day and the unprotected wicket was expected to assist the bowlers. As it did so the Englishmen were no more comfortable on to-day's soft-turning pitch than yesterday. The spin bowlers were naturally in their element and wickets fell cheaply.
When O'Reilly dismissed Duckworth he had taken his ninety-ninth first-class wicket of the tour. England was all out after 105 minutes. The match was a financial failure, as only 1500 people saw Brown and Badcock score the 58 runs needed for victory. Scores:— ENGLISH XI. First innings 132 Second Innings. D.
