AUSTRALIANS IN U.S.A. NEW YORK, September 1. The Australian women tennis players won every match they plaj-ed in at the international invitation tournament at Newport. Mrs. H. O. Hopman beat Miss Virginia Johnson 6 —3, 6 —2, and Miss N. Wynne beat Mme. Mathieu B—6,8 —6, 6—l. In the doubles Misses D. Stevenson and K. Stammers beat . Misses D. Bundy and D. Workman, 7—5, 6—4. THE SURREY CLUB. Steady progress and a satisfactory position were reported at the annual general mnetlng of the Surrey Tenniß Club held in the Orey I.ynn library on Thursday, August 25. Mr. Thomas Walker presided. The annual report- and balance-sheet showed a successful year, the social side of the club toeing well catered for by an energetic committee, and the finances in a satisfactory position.
