tOOJT LOST TITLE. ■ i A Press Association message from Melbourne states that Jack McNamee (10.6) lost his Australian welter-weight boxing title last night. The victor was "Hockey" Bennell (10.5), the former amateur champion, who outpointed the champion in 15 rounds. When Jack Carroll, by doctor's orders, vacated the title last March McNamee (Victoria) and Bilf Pluto were ordered to fight for _ the championship. Pluto's towel came in at the end of the eighth round. "Hockey" Bennell fought and beat Barney Downes at Invercargill in June. The Southland Association had arranged with him for two more contests, but kept him standing by a long time with a view to meeting Vic Caultaux (Auckland) on Ranfurly Shield night, July 30. Bennell refused to be kept waiting and came on to Auckland to stay for a week with Mr. Fred Home, before his return to Sydney. He wrote to that enthusiast fhis week to say that he was certain to beat McNamee and would then take on Fred Henneberry, the middle-weight champion, with whom he had "mixed it" satisfactorily as a sparring partner for his bout with McNamee.
