CAN MAORI REPS. BEAT AUCKLAND?

THRILLS LIKELY. EDEN PARK ATTRACTION. If the New Zealand Maori team which ■w ill meet the Auckland representatives at Eden Park to-morrow plays in the spectacular style that characterised the performance of the 1935 Maori team, Auckland Rugby followers are due for a rare treat. The 1935 side, which toured Australia under the captainship of George Nepia, beat Auckland by 14 points to 10, but the form this (season of the Auckland team, which is yet unbeaten, has given rise to hopes that the result may this time be reversed. The Maori side landed from the Monterey this morning after a successful tour of Fiji, where it won three out of five matches and drew a fourth. Whatever experience they gained from the tour, one thing is assured—that their matches in the Islands will have toughened the Maoris considerably. The Fijian teams they met were heavy, muscular men, who played a fa«t, hard-running type of game. The Auckland team, will probably find the Maori side to-morrow the toughest it has played this season. After several weeks on tour the Maoris will now have acquired complete understanding and co-operation. A spectacular game is highly probable. The Maori's reputation for unorthodoxy is likely to draw a large crowd to Eden Park to-morrow.
