MIXED NATIONS.
VISIT TO THE EAST. ROTARIAN'S IMPRESSIONS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. Visits to Rotary clubs in various parts of the world were described at a meeting of the Christchurch Rotary Club by Mr. I. Woolf, who presented a nag that was given to him at the Batavia Rotary Club's meeting. The Singapore Club, which he also visited, boasted, members of 26 race* and creeds, said Mr. Woolf. He attended, lie said, on a ladies' day, and waA aistonto sec some of the ladies present wearing diamonds inset in their noses. The new president of the Colombo Rotary Club, whose installation Mr. Woolf attended, was, he said, a Cingalese. but his name was Gardner, his grandfather having adopted that patronymic when he won a scholarship presented by a missionary named Gardner. How little was known of New Zealand was shown, said Mr. Woolf, by the fact that, when he had registered in a Colombo. hotel as being from "N.Z.," he was recorded in the local papers as coming from "W.Z." There was also "the man who "stalled off" an inquiry abcrut where Mr. Woolf came from by saying 'N.Z. is in the Gulf of Mexico," and apologised to Mr. Woolf afterwards by saying, "If I had told her New Zealand was in Australia, she would have wanted to know where Australia was!"
