TWO KILLED.
BURIED BY PUMICE. MAORI BOY VICTIMS. COLLAPSE OF PIT SIDE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE PUKE, this day. Two Maori boys were killed when part of a pumice pit near the Kaftuna River collapsed yesterday afternoon. Both children were aged about 10 years. The boye, one the eon of Mr. P Gray, and the other hi* cousin Paul were playing with another Maori in 'a low pumice pit in eight of the main road near Waitangi Pβ, The third boy left the other two about 4 p.m. and that was the, last time they were eeen alive. The back of the quarry, which k more than 10 feet high, must have collapsed and buried them. It is not known lionlong the boys were buried before the accident wo* discovered. One body wa* recovered just below the surface of the elip, the rescuers working with their hand*. The body of the other boy wa« located near the bank and was buried to a depth of four feet. It appears ns though one bov was close to the *ide of the pit and wa* caught by the full force of the fall and tnnt the other lur-.hed in to pull him out and had been himself buried.
