INCREASED EARNINGS.
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA. Buoyant trading conditions enjoyed in Australia in the last eighteen months are reflected in increased earnings shown by a lame number of nublic companies. 'An analysis of the balance-sheets of 82 companies which have published accounts this year rfiows. that the aggreeate profit has increased by £371.000. or 6.6 per cent, to £6.617.000. The increase in the amount available for ordinary shareholders was equal to 8.8 per cent, and the ordinary dividends paid showed an aggregate in« crease of 7.5 per cent. Of the 82 companies included in the foregoing analysis increased earnings were reported by 65 against smaller profits by 15
