OTAGO BOARD'S ACTION.

MAKING ITS own POLES.

(From Our Correspondent.)

DUXEDDf, Friday.

The opinion that the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, was nearer the truth than was the Bureau of Importers wheu he said that Australia was behind with her delivery of hardwood poles was expressed by Mr. W. Lee at the meeting of the Otago Electric Power Board. The statement issued by the bureau had refuted Mr. Semple's charge, and further stated that small orders for up to 500 poles could be executed in three to four months.

In direct contradiction to this, the secretary, Mr. L. W. Potter, reported that of 167 poles ordered by the board ou October 20, 1937, one or two had yet to be delivered. The board was now making its own ferro concrete poles at its plant at Stirling.
