DELAY IN DELIVERY.
HARDWOOD POLES.
ANSWER TO IMPORTERS. (From Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Friday. The delay in the delivery of Australian hardwood power-poles was referred to at a meeting of the Central Waikato Electric Power Board, when the engineer, Mr. J. R. Ellis, submitted a return showing the dates on which. poles were ordered and the dates on which they were delivered. Delivery of an order placed by the board on January 14, *937, for 150 33ft poles had commenced on June 21 nod had been completed on October 21.

Smaller poles ordered on the same date had been delivered by June 21. With respect to orders placed on May 3, 1937, delivery of 33ft poles was commenced on October 31 and was completed on slarch 15, 1938. Delivery of the other poles ordered at that time was completed in August and October. A supply of 300 33ft poles ordered on June 14, 1937, was partially delivered on March 15 of this year, but the total order had not yet been executed.
Mr. Ellis said he had prepared the return as a rejoinder to the Bureau of Importers, which had claimed that it was unable to find one agent who. at the present time was in arrear with his delivery of poles, and suggested that the delay was due to the supply authorities in not placing their orders a reasonable time in advance of requirements.
It was futile, in the case of his board, for the pole contractors to try to hold themselves blameless.
