Department's Warning Had no Political Significance. "ASTONISHING" STATEMENT. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, August 15. It is officially denied that the Department of Overseas Trade's warning on the dangers of trading with Italy had political significance. The statement of Senor Gayda, in "Giornale d'ltalia," that the warning proves the necessity of Italy accelerating her war preparedness is described as "astonishing" as the Department of Overseas Trade was animated purely by business prudence. It was reported on Saturday that the situation in Italy was so disquieting that tne Department of Overseas Trade had warned exporters to exercise the utmost care in trading as Italian payments were again falling in arrears.
