Three Wounded During Air
Raid on Valencia.
REBEL 'PLANES DOWN. United Press Association.—Copyright. " (Received 10 a.m.) GIBRALTAR, August 15. Two of the crew of the London steamer Noemijulia (2499 tons) were wounded by bomb splinters during an air raid on Valencia. The Noemijulia was sunk. Mr. R. A. Amery, wireless officer of the British ship Hillfern (1535 tons) was killed. The British observer aboard the Finnish steamer Freda vore (1138 tons) waa wounded. The French steamer Artois (439 tons) was sunk by a mine 35 miles south-east of Gibraltar. The German steamer Theresarus rescued the crew of 14. Eighteen Nationalist aeroplanes are reported to have been shot down in the Gandesa sector in one of the largest air battles of the Spanish war, says the Barcelona correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph." The battle lasted two hours. As far as is known the Republicans lost only one aeroplane.
WILL CO-OPERATE. Both' Sides in Spain to Help Commission. EXCHANGE OF PRISONERS. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 15. Both sides in Spain have agreed to co-operate with the British commission for the exchange of prisoners.
The personnel of the committee is Field-Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode, a retired Consul, Mr. H. C. Dick, and Colonel R. A. Hay. The headquarters of the committee will be at Toulouse.
