NO CONCENTRATION NEAR THE FRONTIER.
MANOEUVRES BEGIN.
Mobilisation of Labour Embarrasses Firms.
CZECHS WATCH BORDER. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, August 15. Herr Hitler and Field-Marshal Goering initiated the Army manoeuvres at Jutebog (Prussia). The Munich correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" reports that there has been no military concentration and no activity near the Czech border. Mobilisation of labour, and the commandeering of transport for manoeuvres are causing embarrassment to many • Jerman firms. One lost 250 and another 150 workers. An official denial that further taxation is contemplated has not affected the market on the Berlin Bourse. Field-Marshal Goering has summoned industrialists, Nazi financiers, economists and district leaders to a conference tomorrow to discuss measures to cope with the manpower and raw material shortage, involving far-reaching changes in the four-year plan. It is believed that there will be a slowing down of the building programme necessitated in view of the increasingly serious shortage of raw materials. Frontier Under Observation. Reports from Prague state that from observation posts rigged in trees, and from open fields where they are disguised like farmers, members of the special Czech Frontier Vigilance Service, a newly-created organisation, eaid to be the result of the German manoeuvres, are watching the border to report any violations. The disguise, it is stated officially, is the result of a desire to avoid action construable as provocative. The Czech manoeuvres, although on a small scale, bring two classes of reserves to the colours at present, but it is estimated that not more than 300,000 to 400,000 soldiers and reservists will be available.
