RACING AT ELLERSLIE.
T am afraid yotir correspondent C. 15. Majof ie endeavouring to belittle the intelligence ef the average Xew Zealand sportsman; hie argument regarding fractions of 30 per cent is beside tlfS mark and cannot hold water, and I feel sure that the average winning investor is not in the least concerned with threepenny bits, and if these invisible fractions are considered Be- the soundness of the attitude ef the Auckland Racing Club, all I ean eay ie it is absurd. I should like to ask C E. Major if 6/S in the £ is deducted from winnings, why is it that the average dividends under the win and place eyetem 6nnply smother tin average dividends under the single pool eyetem! It is obvious to aTI racegoers that the provincial clubs, Hamilton, Te Aroha, Cambridge, Franklin and Matamata, are an amazing attraction to Aucklanders. mostly on aceonnt of the win and place system, which is the J only logical method of betting and hae been in force throughout the Empire from the onteet. As a consistent eupporter of Ellerslie racing for a number of years, T am getting tired of the complaints one hears, not only locally, but also when visiting other racing clubs, and I do hope that the Auckland Racing Club will look facts in the face and not try to sidestep any sound suggestions made with the best intentions to bring tw TLP TO DATE.
