HUMBER "SNIPE."
ANOTHER NEW MODEL OF ACCUMULATED EXPERIENCE. Ease of maintenance and economical running costs are notable features of the new Humber "Snipe," a car that, though compact and handy, gives them all they want in speed and acceleration- The 20 h.p. (R.A.C. rating) engine embodies the accumulated experience of high-efficiency power units. The valve arrangement is eide-by-side, giving long life and freedom from frequent tappet adjustment, whilst also making for a high degree of silence. The exhaust valve seating** are removable, and are made of specially hardened steel, resisting high temperaI tares and reducing the possibility of ralve-seat pitting. The engine has an aluminium alloy high compression cylinder head, damper-controlled balanced crankshaft, efficient oil fixation and automatic ignition control. An automatic choke ensures instant starting and quick -.drive-away without any hand manipulation. * Engine temperature is thermostatically controlled.
The engine is mounted on rubber cushions in the chassis, which is of the well-tried box-girder design. The wheelbaee is 3ft 63n. The width ie sft 10in, although the track ie the full 4ft 7Jin. It will be seen that the new Humber "Snipe" will fit into a moderately-sized garage and can be conveniently handled in restricted places. A four-speed gearbox with synchromesh on top and third speeds, and incorporating a new type ball-change mechanism which still further simplifies is fitted. Brakes are Bendix-Cowdrey Duo-Servo of special high-efficiency design, and are fully compensated.
The saloon body seats five persons in complete comfort and the coach work refects true Humber dignity. Considerable thought has been given to ventilation, and,a highly efficient system of air-conditionjpg, controllable at will is provided. The windscreen opens upwards far enough for the driver to see under it when fog is encountered. There are ventilators in the scijttle, winding windows on all four, doors. Special attention has been paid to luggage accommodation, and the spare wheel is housed in, a separate locker below the luggage compartment.
