PAKURANGA HUNT.
CHIEF FLAT EVENTS.
GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED. JELUCOE AND ADMIRALTY. The Pakurangn Hunt meeting will lie held at Kllcrslie next Saturday, and with the excellent fields engaged the meeting should be a most successful one. Though the I'nknrangn Hunt Cup is the principal event, most interest will centre just now in tilt" Jellieoe Handicap and the Admiralty Handicap. Flood Tide, who is top-weight in the Jellieoe Handicap, lias' been galloping in Siood stylo at Takanini, and he is likely to run well. If at his best he would have tn be reckoned with, for lie showed up sufficiently at the ■Great Northern meeting to suggest that he is not without prospects. Enge has not raced since he finished third over a> mile and a quarter at Matamat.i, and is must not be forgotten that he was third to Valmint and Knight of Australia in this event last year. The two lastmentioned are also engaged, and both have been going along nicely at Ellerslie. Valmint was second in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie in June, but Knight of Australia has nothing to his credit since he was placed at Ellerslie at Easter. Kilonsa was third in the Cornwall Handicap, and has only started once since. She. however, lias done a good preparation and is in great fettle. Koyal Bachelor was placed up to n mile last season, and as he has been kept in. this event instead of the sprint his. chances cannot be overlooked. Prince Acre raced welj at the Auckland winter meeting, winning' over six furlongs and being placed over seven. A mile is not beyond ,him. Day Wind won over a mile at Te Rapa in May_ and was third in the King Oeorge Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Grjeat Northern meeting. Brown Lap has shown winning form up to a mile and a quarter recently, winning a double at the recent Gisborne meeting. He is a very fit horse. Orac was successful over eight furlongs and a half at Taranaki last month, while of the others. Amiacourt. Gay Rebel and Ke'na appeal most. At present Valmint, Kilonsa, Enge, Flood Tide, Brown
Lap and Armacourt will probably have most friends. The Sprint. The Admiralty» Handicap, previously known nn the Diinedin Handicap, in the chief eprint event of the day. Jonathan, the top-weight, has been galloping in great »tyle at Ellerslie, but although he is well forward hie may find'it hard to give weight to Home-of the younger horses lower down. Cheval de Volee has shown winning form over a much longer distance recently, but there is no doubt about his speed. Trilliarch hoe been getting through a solid preparation 'at Ellerelie and looks asthoMgh he in about back to his best form again. Crooning has disappointed -during the last few months, though there is nothing wrong with the way she has been doing her work at headquarters. Maori Bong won the Diinedin Handicap last year, 'and'his turn is ahout due'. Tybalt has done a good preparation, and as he can handle any going he is not altogether ■ out of it. Young PtAldon, on' recent frtrm, Jβ one of the most likely of the lightweights, for at his last start he ran second to Gay Seton over seVen'furlongs and a quarter at Matamnta, and the shorter distance on Saturday should be in his favour. Armacourt has an earlier engagement, while .Calorie and Milanion were both winners ae two' year-olds ln»t season. .Land Girl will have to improve on her latest form 'to have a chance, and this also applies to Rerepai, but Philcourt, who was a winner as a two-year-old last season, will get' support as the result of his track efforts at Ellerslie during the last fortnight. He has been improving- with each - gallop, and -promises to develop into a really good' sprinter. A few* who may be in demand just now are: Trilliarch, Maori Song.. Young Paddon, Philcourt, Calorie and Milanion. i . «
TO RACE AT WHANGAREI. The Paladin gelding?Flamberg, .who has been attracting attention at Hawera (says our correspondent), is to have his first race in the Taranaki district at the Waverley meeting. H. Scally etates that he intends taking Flamberg and Judgment to the Whangarei meeting to represent their owner, Mr. R. Hoeking. ■
