CURIOUS ERROR.
UNIVERSITY COUNCIL SEAT.
DR. MCELROY'S POSITION.
An error had been made by the Auckland City Council in appointing Dr. R. G. McElroy as its representative on the college council, stated the president of the Auckland University College, Mr. W. H. Cocker, yesterday, at a, meeting of the council. The present representative of the city council is Mr. O. G. Grant, whose term of office does not normally expire until next.year. ,* Dr. McElroy notified the college council of hie intention to retire from the position of lecturer in commercial lav M a result of his appointment to the council. Mr. Cocker said that Dr. McElroy still wished to resign from his lectureship, and the resignation was accepted from the end of the third term. . Mr. Grant, explaining his position, ■aid that when Dr. McElroy's appointment was announced, he had written to the registrar, Mr. L. O. Desborough, and had been told that hit term of office was for two yeans, that was, to the end of June, 1939.
Mr. Grant added that lie had received • letter from the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, expressing regret that the mistake should have occurred, and stating that the steps necessary to rescind the resolution appointing Dr. McElroy would be taken.
The calender for the year 1939 will .Contain the complete liet of convocation. Th» president said that the last complete list was in 1932, and that since then only additional names had been published.
