WAR VETERANS.
PROVISIONS OF BILL.
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister has already announced that provision will be made in. another trill to be introduced this session for economic pensions to war pensioners to be restored to the full rate of 30/, with provisions for 20/ for wives, and 10/ for dependent children. The proposed legislation will provide for war veterans' allowances to be increased to 25/ a week for each veteran, plus 15/ for his wife and 5/ for each dependent child. Power will be given to the War Pensions Board to increase the allowance in special circumstances to 30/ for the veteran and 20/ for his wife. The present bill provides for Maori War and Sooth African War veterans. The rate of benefit to the Maori War veterans is £1 10/ a week. Every man who served in a New Zealand contingent in the South African War may qualify for a benefit, which will take the form of an allowance additional to the age benefit of 5/ a week, so long as his total income is not in excess of £2 10/ per week." War pensioners who previously have been receiving old-age pensions as well : as war disability pensions may receive an extra payment up to the amount which- they were previously receiving under the two pensions.
