INDEPENDENT ANNOUNCED. (By Tslograpli.—Own Correspondent.) CHRIST/CHURCH, Monday. A third candidate has entered the contest for the Mid-Canterbury seat at the general election, Mr. A. S. Lyons, a wellknown barrister and solicitor, of Leeston. has announced that he will contest the seat as an Independent. The present holder of the seat is Mr. H. E. Herring (Labour) and the National party candidate is Mr. A. X. Grigg.
