SALAMAUA'S BAD TRIP.
SHIP HOVE-TO FOR 14 HOURS.
Hove-to for 14 hours on Saturday night during a cyclonic storm of great intensity, the motor .ship Salamaua arrived at Auckland last night Iβ hours behind schedule. Though no damage was done the ehip received a.: bad buffeting, tremendous seas breaking continuously dyer her. /v- '"' ~\ .// ': ".:.,..'■ Late on Saturday afternoon the vessel ran into a westerly gale when: about 260 miles but from Auckland on the voyage from Lautoka. The ship wae battened down, and soon the wind reached cyclone force. Those on board, 10 passengers and a crew of 40, had many thrilling moments as huge seas were shipped amidebipst _. . . ' Eventually half speed 'was ordered at about nine o'clock' on Sunday morning, but until 10 p.m. that night full speed could not be attempted.' The final stages of the trip were uneventful. . The Salamaua will discharge a ~rorg° of sulphur from Galveeion, .Texas. She is a chartered veseel of the American Trading and Shipping Company, and when she leaves about Thursday she I will tow the Richardson Line steamer 'Make t* Sydney."
