Two Imperial Airways flying boats, K P ° l d u tO be the C °o<*r from Karachi bound for Basra, and the Corio, bound for Karachi, collided when mooring at Sharjah, at the eastern end of the Persian Gulf. The passengers, crews and mails were not harmed, but the wings of both machines were damaged. A relief aeroplane has taken all the passengers and mails to Karachi. Both the Cooee and the Corio are temporarily out of commission. They collided on the water. A message from Karachi states that nve passengers and mails aboard the east-bound flying boat Corio, brought here by the Circe, are continuing their journey to-morrow by the relief 'plane from Alexandria, which has 'arrived at Basra and is expected at Sharjah i>. the evening. It will take on the west-bound passengers and mails to-morrow. The colliding 'planes were moored alongside when a violent gust of wind drove the wings together, causing superiicial damage.

Thomson Glover, a British resident of Kashmir, who is ill, reached Karachi intending to catch the Imperial Airways machine for England, which was damaged in the collision. In view of the nature' of his illness, however, he was advised to travel by sea, for whfah reason he has flown with his wife from Karachi to Bombay in a Royal Air Force 'plane, which made a 600 miles flight through, monsoon weather, enabling them to embark on the Maloja. It was the first time passengers had landed at the aerodrome during a monsoon. SEAPLANE CRASHES. Giant French Machine On Trial Flight. TWO OF OCCUPANTS DEAD. (Received 11.30 a.m.) CHERBOURG, July 17. The six-engined seaplane, due shortly

to make its first flight to Dakar, crashed in Tourlaville while on a test flight. The nine occupants were injured and taken to hospital. Two have since died. The 'plane had a wing span of 43 yards and could carry 4160 gallons of petrol. Each engine was capable of developing 1100 horse-power.

The "Daily Mail" says that the 200 Lockheed reconnaissance 'planes the Air Ministry ordered from a California company will be fitted with 1100 horse-power Wright-Cyclone engines, the same type as Howard Hughes used on his round-the-world flight. A message from Berlin states that a Government spokesman remarked: "The only interpretation that can be given the order for 1000 high-speed Spitfire Fighters placed with Viscount Nuffield's aviation factory is that Britain desires to give the signal for an international armament race. It is an invitation to the world to engage in an arms competition." '
