KILLED BY MOTOR CAR.

WELLINGTON SPORTSMAN.

Fatal injuries were suffered by Mr. William Samuel Ridler, a retired railwayman, of Wellington, when he was struck by a motor car at the. corner of Brooklyn Road and Xairn Street shortly after seven o'clock on Saturday night, states a Press Association message from Wellington.

Mr. Ridler was president of the Athletic Rughy Football Club and a member of the Wellington Bowling Club. He was a senior footballer in his younger days, and was first'secretary "of the Petone Club, later playing for Athletic.

YOUTH HURT.

SHOOTING MISHAP.

As the result of the accidental discharge of the pea-rifle he was carrying Jack Eric Orpin, aged 18, of 18, Williams Street, Mangerc Crossing, suffered a bullet wound in the left shoulder. He tripped, a?id as he fell the gun discharged. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital. His condition is not serious.

An elderly woman, Miss Elizabeth Cnllen, of Palmerston, wal killed instantly late on Saturday afternoon when she was straok by a motor car near Goodwood, 37 miles' from Dunedin, says a Press Association message from Dunedin.

FALL ON ROAD.

Stepping from a motor car on to the roadway in front of his home on Saturday, Mr. W. K. Hoivitt, of Stanley Bay, tripped when one of liis feet struck an obstruction. He fell heavily. He suffered concussion and bruises, but his condition is not serious. STRUCK BY TIMBER. Struck by a piece of timber when a charge exploded unexpectedly, Mr. ■ Albert Proudlock, aged 59, married, of Hamilton, suffered a fractured leg. Mr. Proudlock was blasting tree stumps on Mr. Wilfred Johnstone's farm at Taniahere.

SIX FOOTBALLERS HURT.

Playing, fourth-"*- grade Rugby for Otahuhu against Tamaki at Ellerslie sports grounds, Lloyd Mayee, of 371, Great South Road, One Tree Hill, suffered injury to the right thigh. A fracture of the right collarbone was suffered by L. Wakefield, of 83, Hepburn Street, Ponsonby, while he was playing third grade Rugby League football for Mariet Old Boys at Western Springs. George William Holland, aged 20, of 2. Millar Street, Ellsrelie, broke a leg while playing third grade intermediate Rugy football for Manukau at Onehunga. When he wae , playing third grade intermediate Rugby football for Grafton at Victoria Park Jack Lyall, aged 18 years, of 15, Norwich Street, Xewton, sustained injury to the neck. * A fracture of the right leg was sustained by Mason Macky, aged 22 years, in the match between Mercer seniors and Kaiaua. All five were taken to the Auckland hospital on Saturday afternoon, four being conveyed in St. John ambulances. Wakefield was treated at the casualty department and allowed to return home. The condition of Lyall, which wae serious upon admittance, had improved considerably to-day. The other three are not seriously hurt.

Concussion . was suffered by lan Andrews, aged 16, of Palmerston Street, Hamilton, while playing football on Saturday. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. His condition is not serious.
