OBITUARY.
PURUA PIONEER. MRf. E. F. ABRAHAM. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREL this day. One of the pioneers of the Purua district, Mrs. Philomene Abraham, aged 87, died to-day at the residence of her eon, Mr. E. F. Abraham, of Kanio. Forty-two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Abraham and their young family joined what was known as the "Belgian Settlement" at Purua. breaking in virgin country. Members of the Abraham family were accustomed to packing kegs of butter over pig tracks and surveyors' trails to Whangarei, where it brought 4d a pound. Mr. Abraham died 41 years ago. The surviving children are: Mrs. J. Kershaw (Purua), and Messrs. V. A. Abraham (Mangamuka), and E. F. Abraham (Kamo).
