PENWOMEN'S CLUB.

MUSIC AND DRAMA. ') The music and dramatic circles of the Penwomen'a Club presented an entertaining- programme at the July meeting. Piano duets were rendered by Mrs. H. MacGrcgor and Mr. Peter Black, and vocal duets by Mrs. Winifred Osborne and Mrs. McGregor. A pleasing quartet, "Sweet and Low," was sung by Messrs. NT. Laud and E. Mitchell, Mesdames McGregor and Osborne, and Mr. E. Mitchell's song , , "Serenade," was also enjoyed. Recitations were given by Miss Joyce Fleming, Mise Kathleen Teape and Mies Betty Page. A different note was struck by Miss Mary Davidson in her rendering of two beautiful sonnets on the same theme; one by Michael Dray ton (18th century) and the other by Rupert Brooke. Mies Frances Cole, equipped with loudspeaker and field glasses, gave a clever presentation of an exasperated producer in "Pageant Rehearsal." An amusing sketch, "Sorcery," was presented by Mrs.. L. Booth and Mrs. W. Osborne.

Mrs. W. Osborne, convener of the music circle, presided, and a vote of thanks was accorded the performers. VOTERS' RESPONSIBILITY. In his address to the well-attended meeting of the Penwomen's Club, held in the clubroonw yesterday afternoon, Professor R. M. Algie stressed the point that voting was the right as well as the duty of every adult. The lackadaisical manner that the older people take, however, he continued, is not reflected in the younger people .of both sexes, who are every day taking a greater interest in politics. The spirit of the young people of to-day, he eaid, should be fostered.

Mrs. Nello Porter, president, gave a cordial welcome to the New Zealand writer Mies Edith Lyttelton, well known in literary circles as G. B. Lancaster. Other guests of honour included Mr. Lionel B. Burrows, C.8.U., and Mrs. Burrows, and Mre. Lyttelton.
