THE NEW AIR MAIL.
_ T tliink your correspondent must hare been misinformed when he told us that "it is stated that live sheets of ordinary writing paper and a medium weight envelope weigh half an <Tunce," and therefore go for ljd on the new Empire air route. I tested the weights some weeks ago at two poet offices 'n anticipation of the new service, using "ortnnary" writing paper, which I take to mean quarto eize, 8 by 10 inches, the thin paper sold in pads at ninepence to a shilling, as for "medium weight" envelopes. I tried with thin envelopes, and found that five of these sheets were too heavy and turned the scales. Four sheets were then found to be "not exceeding Joz," and therefore costing ljd, but nine sheets and the same envelope are under loz, and therefore costing 3d. It might be worth while for you to publish more' fully in due course the complete scale of postaps rates, for I have received what appears to be contradictory information *t different offices regarding rates to some countries.
