WELLINGTON, this day. With the Addrees-in-Reply debate disposed of and the Budget not yet ready for' presentation, the House of Representatives has been forced to mark time, and the whole of yesterday's sitting wae devoted to discussion on the report of the committee of inquiry into maternity eervicee. Members on both sides of the House took full advantage of the opportunity offered them when the Prime Minister. Mr. Savage, -moved that the ordinary time for speeches relevant to rtporta be extended from 15 minutes to half an hour, and the discussion showed no difference of opinion between Government and Opposition speakers. The committee received congratulations from the Minister of Health, Mr. Fraeer, on the compilation of ite excellent report, and this was echoed by all members who took part in the discuseion. Dr. D. G. McMillan, (Government, Dunedin West), in moving that the report be referred to the Government for consideration, made special reference to the humanitarian legislation introduced by Richard John Seddon, par ticularly in the establishment of St. Heiene hospitals.

The discueeion bad not concluded when the House adjourned at 10.20 p.m.
