COTTAGE DAMAGED.

ROOF LIFTED OFF. TORY CHANNEL STORM. (From Our Correspondent.) BLENHEIM, Wednesday. The worst storm experienced in the Tory Channel area for many v'ears, to-day caused damajre to a cottage occupied by Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Terrill at the lonely settlement in the channel called Te Punga. The roof of the cottage was lifted off by the wind and blown almost into the sea. Mrs. Terrill. whose husband is ill in bod. had to make hurried efforts to secure other portions of the building with ropes. She then walked half a mile over the hill in the fierce gale for assistance. Helpers had to make further efforts to tie down the cottage.

A fierce southerly was also experienced on the east coast, but no damage is reported. Blenheim escaped the full force of the gale, although a high wind developed early in the morning, bringing with it a bitterly cold atmosphere.
