Spectacular Function.

The Yugoslav Club ball in Auckland is regarded as one of the most colourful functions of the year, and the sixth annual gathering which was held at the Peter Pan Cabaret last evening more than upheld its reputation for traditional picturesqueness and its note of friendly hospitality.

The energies of a large committee were responsible for an outstanding success and every available space in the cabaret was utilised to accommodate the record orowd of guests. A badge in the foyer with the words "Dobro Dosli" (Welcome) gave a warm preliminary greeting, while in the ballroom the Yugoslav national colours of retl, white and blue effectively fringed the dome and beams, end the band <lais was surmounted with a replica of the club badge, bearing the motto '"Sloga Jc Moc' , (Unity is Strength). The supper tables were centred with the dominant colours, and were" arrayed with tall vases of white and gold Iceland poppies. Dancing the Kolo. Opening with the British nnd Yugoslav national anthems, the programme comprised old-time and modern dances, and was characterised by a renowned feature of the Yugoslav balls —the dancing of the national kolo. Enthusiastic applause from the onlookers greeted the ten couples of stalwart men and attractive girls as they made a spirited entry in the ballroom to the stirring music of the Yugoslav Tnmburioa orchestra. All wearing their beautiful national costume of white satin, delicately embroidered in a design of red. white and blue, tliey made a delightful picture and their vivid exposition of the national dance with its graceful and vigorous movements and its supplementary choruses was a stimulation to a joyous atmosphere. Such an ovation they received that an encore had to be given.

The girls who danoed the kolo were Mise X. Marinovic, Miss M. Pasalich, Miss I. Xola. Miss Scansic.Mise Autunovich, Mis* Z. lVrgomet, Mies Bakalich, Miss Myich, Mise Covich and Miss Kunicich. Mrs. M. Ravlich, wearing a graceful frock of amethyst cloquc with an ermine capelet, acted ae hostess, and assisting her in receiving the representative attendance of guests were Mr. S. Sumich, the acting-president, and Mrs. Sumich, the latter wearing a black georgette and lace frock with a cyclamen posy.

Among those present were: Lady Davie, who wore a frock of azure blue brocade lightly traced with silver, and was presented with a lovely bouquet from the committee; Mrs. Murdoch Smith's frock was primrose net over taffeta; Mrs. T. H. E. Oakcs wore black coin-spotted net; Mrs. M. E. Simich, sapphire blue and silver faille; Mrs. J. Pasalic, black taffeta relieved with diamante; Mrs. S. Pergomet. ivory taffeta and lace; Mrs. A.
