AUCKLAND TO SYDNEY.
MAYORAL GOOD WISHES
Cabled greetings between the Mayors of Auckland and Sydney were exchanged when a courtesy call was made by Sir Krnest Davis to the offices of the Pacific Cable Board in the Chief Tost Office, Auckland.
Keen interest was taken by Sir Ernest in the New Zealand end of the overseas communication system, the methods and organisation of which were explained in detail by the board", Auckland manager, who also pointed out the stability and secrecy of the cable system, and" the facility existing for the handling of at least three times the present volume of overseas traffic without increase in apparatus or appreciable rise in running
Sir Erneet witnessed the despatch of his message to Alderman Nock, Lord Mayor of Sydney, who was in the Sydney office of the cable service at the'time. and the receipt of the reply within a few minutes from Alderman Nock. In the course of his cablegram Sir Ernest referred to the historical link between New South Wales and Auckland, which had not been weakened by passing years, and to the pleasure with which Aucklanders followed the celebrations, showing the community of interest between the two cities.
Alderman Nock replied that Sydney retained happy recollections of the visit of the New Zealand returned soldiers' contingent, and now awaited the match with the All Blacks. Citizens of Sydney, he added, wished Auckland all success in ite centennial celebrations.
